DHL Strengthens African Supply Chain with Key South African Acquisitions

In a strategic move to deepen its presence and enhance service capabilities in Africa, DHL Group has completed the acquisition of three South African logistics firms through its contract logistics division, DHL Supply Chain.

The transaction — which includes Vital Distribution Solutions (Pty) Ltd, Staffing Logistics (Pty) Ltd, and Vital Fleet (Pty) Ltd — was unconditionally approved by South Africa’s Competition Tribunal, clearing the way for full ownership and integration into the DHL network.

Expanding Regional Logistics Footprint

This acquisition underscores DHL’s continued commitment to expanding its logistics footprint across emerging markets and strengthening end‑to‑end supply chain solutions on the African continent. By incorporating these established South African companies into its broader network, DHL Supply Chain will significantly enhance its distribution, transportation, and local market capabilities in one of Africa’s key regional hubs.

The acquired firms will operate as subsidiaries of DHL Supply Chain, maintaining their existing customer relationships and operational teams while benefiting from DHL’s global expertise, technological platforms, and service standards.

What This Means for Customers

The acquisition is expected to deliver several key benefits for businesses operating in and around South Africa:

  • Enhanced Transportation and Distribution Capacity: Increased fleet size and warehouse coverage to support faster and more reliable local and regional deliveries.
  • Stronger Local Market Expertise: Leveraging local knowledge and networks to deliver tailored logistics solutions for retail, e‑commerce, manufacturing, and other industry segments.
  • Improved Service Flexibility: Expanded routing options and scale that enable customers to optimize supply chain operations.

A Strategic Move in Africa’s Growing Market

This acquisition aligns with broader industry trends in which global logistics providers are accelerating investments in Africa to support growing intra‑regional trade, e‑commerce expansion, and supply chain localization. Investment in robust logistics infrastructure and integrated services remains a priority as Africa’s economic activity gains momentum.

DHL Group’s move into South Africa’s transport‑led logistics segment reflects a strategic commitment to strengthening local service delivery and supporting customers’ global and regional growth ambitions.
